The Steamopera is one of those little conworld projects I have, you know what they're like. They buzz in your head and collect to themselves miscellanea and maybe reproduce with other worlds to create unholy hybrids man was not meant to know. The Steamopera is a steampunk-style 19th century Earth with fantastic physical laws, like polarities of gravity and your ubiquitous particular aether, so nothing special there. For years, I've been influenced in my conworld instincts and style of construction mainly by alternative history writers, like the good people at [soc.history.what-if], so I keep on writing this thing as if it was an AH-bit, though of course it isn't. The effective, historical PoD (point of divergence) for the Steamopera is somewhere in the latter half of the 18th century. The Steam stands for the steam in steampunk (so less punk, but that doesn't mean anything now-a-days), and the -opera is from space opera, so simple steampunk space opera.
